In his brief statement, the Prime Minister took the view that it is at least partially the European Commission’s fault that prices have risen. Certain regulations must be changed, or else everyone will suffer a disadvantage, he said.
Mr Orbán also pointed out that for the time being Hungary is not being affected by the price rise because prices cannot rise above the fixed upper limit. However, the so-called Green Deal proposed by the European Commission involves the indirect levying of taxes on home and car owners, and for Hungary this is unacceptable, he added.
At a working dinner held on Tuesday evening, the leaders of EU Member States discussed the issue of rising energy prices, and representatives of the EU indicated that in the coming weeks this topic would be dealt with in more detail.
