In a joint video message, prime ministers Viktor Orbán and Mateusz Morawiecki issue a general invitation to celebrate on 15 March

In a video message posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Mr. Orbán said that the national holiday of 15 March is “knocking on our door”, and that it is the day of Hungarian freedom, on which “we remember the heroes who, if they needed to, gave their all for Hungarian freedom – even their lives”. He stressed that in this fight for freedom “we always fought together with the Polish people,” noting that by the middle of the 19th century hundreds of Polish people were fighting on the Hungarians’ side.

The Hungarian prime minister said that Poles are also coming to this celebration, “this joint Hungarian-Polish celebration”, and among them will be Mateusz Morawiecki – who will address those attending in Budapest in his own words.

“Come along, let’s celebrate together!” Mr. Orbán urged.

The Polish prime minister highlighted that Hungarian-Polish friendship extends back centuries, and is still alive today when Polish flags fly in the wind on Hungarian holidays.

Mr. Morawiecki added that it is clear that this friendship increasingly points towards the future, and “we are happy to have the Hungarian people as such loyal and tried-and-true friends”.

He stated that this points to a better future for Hungary and Poland.
