Mr Orbán said thank you for the cooperation in the fight against the epidemic, as part of which last spring Uzbekistan sent 650,000 face masks to Hungary, while Hungary helped Uzbek nationals to return home after the outbreak of the pandemic.
At the meeting, the parties confirmed that investing in the development of Hungarian-Uzbek economic relations is a reasonable endeavour. Hungarian businesses are able to take part in projects in the field of water management, in projects related to renewable energy and the modernisation of the electricity network, and in the modernisation of agriculture in Uzbekistan, including the construction of food industry processing plants. At the same time, Uzbekistan has 50 years of research experience in the utilisation of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and is also the world’s seventh largest producer of uranium.
At the Tuesday talks, the politicians also spoke about exchange relations in education. Mr Orbán recalled that up to the end of 2023 Hungary had offered scholarship grants to 100 Uzbek students annually for education in Hungary.
Mr Umurzakov paid a visit to Budapest on the occasion of the 6th meeting of the Hungarian-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation to be held on Wednesday.
