In a video posted on his Facebook account, the Prime Minister said this morning Russia attacked Ukraine with military force. Therefore, the national security operational group was convened.
He stressed that they are equally unable to accept any proposals from the Left that jeopardise Hungary’s energy and gas supply, and would therefore jeopardise the reduction of household energy bills for families.
The Prime Minister said military and designated police units started work in the region of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. He added that after Thursday’s military attack, we should expect a rise in the number of Ukrainian nationals arriving in Hungary who may apply for asylum. We have prepared for their care, we will be able to face this challenge swiftly and effectively, Mr Orbán said.
The Prime Minister stressed that “together with our allies in the European Union and NATO, we condemn Russia’s military intervention,” and also said that on Thursday an “emergency summit” will be held in Brussels.
The Hungarian Prime Minister took the view that it will be possible to maintain European unity, and they could decide on joint action.
