The Prime Minister’s Press Chief, Bertalan Havasi, has told Hungarian news agency MTI that on Friday morning Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with President of the Cultural Alliance of Hungarians in Transcarpathia (KMKSz) László Brenzovics. The two men agreed that the dispute over the issue of dual citizenship for Hungarians living in Ukraine could soon be resolved.

At the meeting, held at Fidesz headquarters in Budapest, Mr. Orbán informed the KMKSz President of his discussions with the Ukrainian prime minister in Malta on Thursday, during which it emerged that the Ukrainian government wishes to resolve the issue through bilateral talks and a bilateral agreement. “The Hungarian prime minister said that he is open to conducting talks, as long as Ukraine provides the legislative background required for the agreement”, Mr. Havasi said.

At the meeting in Budapest Mr. Brenzovics thanked Prime Minister Orbán for the funding and support the Hungarian government is providing to the Hungarian community in Ukraine, and Mr. Orbán indicated that in the future this support would not only continue, but increase.
