On Wednesday in Brussels, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Phankham Viphavanh, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

At the meeting, the parties commemorated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and Hungary which is made all the more topical by the fact that Laos has already opened its new embassy in Budapest, while Hungary will elevate its diplomatic representation in Vientiane to an ambassadorial level next year.

Mr Orbán expressed joy at the fact that even in the present critical times, Hungary and Laos are succeeding in continuously strengthening the economic cooperation of the two countries.

The two prime ministers also evaluated the world political situation; in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian war, they agreed on the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the commencement of peace talks, “and instead of oil, cold water should be poured on the fire,” Mr Havasi quoted the negotiating parties.
