Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to travel to Albania to attend EU-Western Balkans summit

On Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will travel to Tirana, capital of Albania, to attend the summit of the European Union and the countries of the Western Balkans, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

According to the information of the European Council, this is the first-ever summit of EU and Western Balkans leaders to take place in the Western Balkans region.

The summit will offer a good opportunity to reconfirm the key importance of strategic partnership between the EU and the Western Balkans, a region with a clear EU perspective, the Council’s website reads.

The main topics of the discussion will be tackling together the consequences the Russian aggression against Ukraine, intensifying political and policy engagement, reinforcing security and building resilience against foreign interference, and addressing the challenges posed by migration, the fight against terrorism and organised crime.

Leaders are expected to issue a declaration at the end of the summit.
