Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to travel to EU-Western Balkans summit

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will travel to Brdo, Slovenia where in the evening he will attend an informal working dinner organised for the heads of state and government of EU Member States, and the EU-Western Balkans summit the following day, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

He added that ahead of the informal working dinner of the European Council, as usual the Prime Ministers of the Visegrád countries will have a meeting organised by the Hungarian V4 Presidency.

In his invitation to the heads of state and government of the Member States of the European Union which was published on Friday, President of the European Council Charles Michel wrote in Brdo they will hold an important strategic meeting about the role played by the EU on the international scene, the latest developments in Afghanistan, the AUKUS partnership and the development of relations maintained with China.

He wrote that relations maintained with strategic partners, including the transatlantic allies and emerging powers form a key element of the EU’s foreign policy.

He also stated that the EU-Western Balkans summit will be a good opportunity for the leaders of Member States to discuss their commitments related to the region, with regard to its strategic significance. At the same time, it is also important to discuss how the stability of the region can be guaranteed, how regional cooperation could be strengthened and how regional conflicts could be resolved, the President of the European Council added.
