We remember the attacks of 11 September 2001, but the wider than ever spread of terrorism in Europe and in the continent’s immediate neighbourhood also confers on the anniversary a distressing relevance. Terrorism has moved to Europe. The threat of terrorism, and the possibility that attacks may occur, have become part of Europeans’ everyday lives. Across a large swathe of Europe everyday security is now a thing of the past. Hungary itself is in a region which is not free from danger, and the security of our country is also at risk.
Hungary and the United States fight together, side by side, against every form of terrorism. As part of an international coalition, our countries’ soldiers are fighting together against terrorists in a number of conflict zones around the world, and our security policy cooperation is also exemplary. Our American friends can continue to rely on us: we stand by them, with the strength we are able to muster, in order to protect our world and way of life, and the security of our citizens.
