„The obvious intention of this barbarous act was to undermine Egypt’s national unity”, the Prime Minister’s English-language letter addressed to the Egyptian head of state reads, a copy of which was forwarded to the Hungarian news agency MTI by the Press Office of the Prime Minister.
Mr Orbán expressed his appreciation to the head of state for all the efforts he makes for the protection the Egyptian people, including a number of them of the Christian faith, against terrorism, and reassured him of Hungary’s support and solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
In his letter sent to Pope Tawadros II, the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed that the Budapest Government treats the protection of Christian communities in the Middle-East and in North-Africa as one of its most important priorities. Mr Orbán offered to provide medical assistance, should the need arise, for those in need in the wake of the terrorist attack against the Christian church.
A bomb attack was carried out in the Church of St. George in the city of Tanta, lying North of Cairo, in the Nile Delta, during the Palm Sunday service, in consequence of which minimum 26 people lost their lives and more than 70 were injured.
