Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote a reply to the 44 Members of the European Parliament who recently sent him a joint letter in connection with the war in Ukraine. In his reply, the Prime Minister stated that Hungary stood for peace and helping Ukraine; at the same time, he rejected insults directed at Hungary, sanctions against church leaders and sanctions proposals that are contrary to common sense, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief told the Hungarian news agency MTI on Thursday.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will nominate Ambassador Olivér Várhelyi, head of Hungary’s Permanent Representation in Brussels as Hungary’s commissioner in the EU. He announced this on Monday evening in Budapest at a press conference held jointly with Antti Rinne, Prime Minister of Finland which currently holds the EU presidency. Mr Orbán also said in answer to questions of journalists that in Hungary the rule of law is not a legal issue, but an issue of honour.
